Apple releases iOS 27 and the English beta of the new Siri

The Japanese beta of the new Siri is planned for October
Apple has begun releasing iOS 27 and other operating-system updates, with its redesigned assistant Siri AI offered as an English beta. The Japanese announcement says Japanese, French, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish will be added in October.
What Japanese users must wait for is the new Siri, not Japanese support for Apple Intelligence as a whole. This update also adds AI features usable in Japanese for photo editing, Safari and other areas. OS release dates, individual feature rollouts and language support should be checked separately.
Device compatibility also matters. Apple's availability information lists iPhone 16 and later, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max for Apple Intelligence. A supported language setting and enabling Apple Intelligence are also required. Not every iPhone able to install iOS 27 can run the new Siri.

Finding messages and email, then acting in apps
In Apple's example, Siri finds a dish mentioned in family messages, locates the recipe in an earlier email and adds its ingredients to a shopping list in Reminders. The aim is not just answering questions but finding information on the device and passing it into the next action.
It can also answer questions about on-screen content and perform related actions. These are use cases described by Apple, not measured evidence that every conversation or app task can be completed correctly.
Third-party app integrations have different rollout schedules. Sending through WhatsApp and playing Audible are presented as available examples, while composing Outlook email, finding assignments in Notability and saving to Tripsy are described as coming later.
Models built with Gemini run in Apple's environment
The underlying technology is a new generation of Apple Foundation Models. Apple says it built these models specifically through collaboration with Google and Gemini. They run on the device and in Apple's Private Cloud Compute environment.
Describing Siri as built on Gemini should not be taken to mean that user requests are simply sent to Google's Gemini app. Collaboration on model development and where personal information is processed are separate issues.
Apple says personal data processed in Private Cloud Compute is not stored and is inaccessible to Apple. It also says outside experts can inspect the system. These are the company's stated design and policies, not results independently verified for this article.
Regional restrictions and limits on server-side processing
Availability conditions vary by region. In the EU, Siri AI is initially unavailable on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS. Apple says Siri AI and some other new features will not be offered in China. Switching to a supported language does not make them available everywhere.
Some features using server-side models, including Siri AI, also have daily usage limits. Limits vary with request complexity and system load. Apple has indicated plans for paid capacity expansion, but this announcement gives neither specific prices nor a start date.
For Japanese users, the first step is to check device compatibility, then confirm which features are included in October's rollout. When delegating actions rather than just requesting text, evaluation must include whether the correct information was selected and sent to the right recipient or app.
